With the advancement of Chinese-culture-going-global strategy and the Belt and Road Initiative,the Chinese culture,extensive and profound,should move forward and become more popular in the world.As one of the literary genres,essay constitutes an important part in the Chinese culture.The translation of it is of great significance to exchange with different civilizations and promote Chinese-culture-going-global initiative.The Fickleness of the World is a collection of essays written by Ji Xianlin,a famous writer in modern China,mainly describing the author's feelings and thoughts for life.Under the guidance of Eco-translatology,the report discusses the translation methods and techniques the translator adopts in the translation work based on the part of the translation of The Fickleness of the World from three dimensions — linguistic dimension,cultural dimension and communicative dimension,thereby enriching the translation study of Chinese essays and providing some references as well as feasible directions.The report turns out the feasibility that Eco-translatology can be guided to the translation of the book The Fickleness of the World.In the linguistic dimension,given the big differences between Chinese and English,the techniques of amplification,omission,reconstruction,conversion and conjunction are adopted at the lexical level,the syntactic level and discoursal level.The methods of literal and free translation are combined to guide the translation.In the cultural dimension,to better convey the cultural connotations embodied in the words and sentences,the Chinese Four-characters,poems and Chinese idioms are rendered by embodiment,structure-borrowing,antithesis,paraphrase and other techniques.In terms of the communicative dimension,the techniques of paraphrase,substitution,and imitation are applied to achieve the communicative intentions and effects.The cultural dimension and communicative dimension both see a wide application of free translation to the translation work.
