Located in the southwest of China,Yunnan province as one of the main settlements of the ethnic groups is the cradle of colorful ethnic group cultures. The book Colorful Mountain Flowers collected and complied by the local scholars is a valuable material to study the folk cultures of the ethnic groups in Yunnan. The translator translates Chapter 8 and Chapter 10 of the book for the purpose of conveying the unique cultures of the ethnic groups in Yunnan to western readers. The translation report takes Eco-translatology as the theoretical guidance, and uses one of the most important translation methods of Eco-translatology,namely “multi-dimensional transformation”,which is concretely fulfilled in “three-dimensional transformation” that relatively focuses on the adaptive transformations from the linguistic, cultural, and communicative dimensions. The translator translates these chapters from the perspective of“three-dimensional transformation”.In the process of the translation, the translation techniques such as combination and synthesis are applied to achieve the adaptive transformation from the linguistic dimension. Then, through the application of translation methods such as literal translation, transliteration with explanation, and free translation, the translator realizes the adaptive transformation from the cultural dimension. In addition, the use of the translation techniques such as addition and omission helps the translator realize the adaptive transformation from the communicative dimension. The translation report is composed of five chapters.Chapter one provides a brief introduction to the project.Chapter two elaborates on the translator’s preparations for the translation.Chapter three presents a theoretical framework of Eco-translatology.Chapter four focuses on the analyses of the cases with research values from the perspective of“three-dimensional transformation”.Chapter five is the conclusion mainly about the translator’s gains, lessons and suggestions for further improvement from the translation. |
