China's growing international influence has caught the eyes of countries all over the world.More and more countries are responding actively to China's proposal of the "Belt and Road Initiative",which has also attracted the attention of western countries, especially the United States. The Chinese translation of English political essays, especially those related to China.plays an important role in understanding the western views on certain issues about China. In the United States,China is one of the main research objects of many world-famous think tanks whose research reports are good English political essays and are worth being studied. At the Dawn of Belt and Road,China in the Developing World is a report of a research project called "China in the Developing World' by the top U.S.think tank Rand Corporation whose purpose is to examine China's economic, political, and military activities in the developing world and offer insights to U.S.decision-making organs. The source text is a chapter examining China's potential pivotal partnerships in six regions—Central Asia,South Asia, the Middle East,Africa,Latin American and Southeast Asia.Following the analysis of the linguistic and textual features of the source text, the report explains the translation methods and translation techniques adopted in the translation with specific case studies. Finally,it summarizes what should be paid attention to with regard to translating writings of such kind.Through this translation project, the author hopes to have a better understanding of researches on China conducted by American think tanks and be familiar with some translation methods and translation techniques used in dealing with words, phrases and sentences, and that the translation report is beneficial to enriching translation study of political writings.
