Immersion teaching is a teaching method that takes learners' second language as the medium of classroom teaching.It originated in Canada and was introduced into China in the late 1990 s.Immersion teaching strives to create a good language environment for students to learn and communicate.As an all-around and multi-dimensional learning mode,immersion teaching mode is also indispensable for foreign language education.At present,the teaching method has already been widely recognized in foreign language teaching,but in our country,confined to some conditions,it has not been broadly promoted and practiced in the English classroom teaching,especially in the primary school.Since 2001,most primary schools in China have started to offer English courses in the third grade.However,due to various reasons,there are still some problems and tough issues to be solved in primary school English teaching.For instance,most primary school students have great difficulties in English listening,speaking,reading,writing and comprehensive language application competence.However,it is clearly stipulated in the English syllabus of primary schools that one of the teaching objectives in the first stage of English learning is to enable students to master correct English pronunciation.Therefore,if these problems can not been solved,it will be difficult for students to reach the expected standard.Through looking up and learning an abundance of domestic and foreign literature,this study systematically sorts out and analyzes the concept,background of generation,research status at home and abroad,and theoretical basis of immersion teaching.And this study takes the third grade students as the research object.In one academic year,the author participated in the whole teaching process and carried out the infiltration teaching experiment with the action research method to create a better language learning environment for students under the guidance of the theory and concept of immersion teaching.The author strictly follows the four steps of action research: planning,action,observation and reflection.The results show that :(1)Influenced by the traditional learning mode of rote memorization,students chronically memorize words by rote without understanding pronunciation rules,which leads to great difficulties in correct pronunciation and vocabulary memory,and even has a serious adverse impact on students' learning interest and confidence;(2)The implementation of immersion teaching and the advocation of a full-English learning environment has improved students' English learning ability and interest;(3)Adopting the immersion teaching mode and combining action research with teachers' daily teaching practice can not only improve the teaching effect,but also improve the professional level of primary school English teachers.
