| The translation practice report selects The Last Tudor written by British historical novelist Philippa Gregory as the source text.Under the guidance of Newmark’s text typology theory, the translator conducts the preliminary research and exploration on the translation of historical fiction. The purpose is to conclude some effective translation methods and make reproduction of the source text based on historical facts in order to improve translation abilities and language competence.Text typology theory proposed by Newmark classifies text types into three categories: informative text, expressive text and vocative text.Informative text mainly conveys information and reflects objective facts, expressive text emphasizes the original author’s thought and language style, and vocative text concentrates on readers and their feelings.According to this theory, the source text belongs to expressive text, which is not only based on authentic historical facts, but also depicts character images and story plots exquisitely. Therefore, the research on the translation of historical fiction is made from the lexical, syntactic and discourse level, meanwhile various translation methods are concluded, such as amplification, conversion, free translation, division, restructuring, etc.Through this translation practice, translation abilities have been greatly improved. At the same time,it is also deeply recognized that many problems need to be solved. Therefore, language competence should be further enhanced to lay a solid foundation for the translation work in the future.Figure 0;Table 0;Reference 30... |
