| The past few decades have witnessed the rapid growth of Chinese technology companies,including Huawei,Xiaomi,and Lenovo.While keeping their growth in the home market,Chinese smartphone manufacturers are also actively seeking to explore the overseas ground.As a result,interpretation becomes a necessary part for the launch event.This report is centered on the Lenovo New Product Launch Event held on April 23,2019.Resonant and humorous,Chang Peng,Lenovo’s Vice President,offered a detailed introduction of Lenovo’s new device Lenovo Z6 Pro and ZUI 11,the latest operating system on the phone.However,the large amount of terminologies and other problems still pose a great challenge for the interpreter.The main difficulties are summarized as follows: special terms,colloquial expressions,redundancies and intensive information.The process of interpreting,according to the Interpretive Theory,can be divided into three small steps: the understanding of the source language,de-verbalization and re-expression.This report,under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory,concludes four strategies to cope with the difficulties mentioned above.The strategy of explanation is to explain the special terms and colloquial expressions so that the meaning of the source language is understood by the audience;The strategy of amplification is to supplement the incomplete sentences or add related background information;The strategy of omission represents the deletion of redundant components or information to make the interpreting more concise and smooth;The strategy of restructuring is to reorganize sentence components so that the interpreting is more natural in expression.This report is aimed at providing some reference for the author’s future interpreting practice as well as contributing another case on the study of consecutive interpreting from the perspective of the Interpretive Theory.The author is also trying to make his contribution to the internationalization of Chinese tech companies by making the English-speaking world understand more about Chinese tech companies. |
