Recruiting International Students in Higher Education: Representations and Rationales in British Policy is written by British writer Sylvie Lomer, and this book mainly studies the British government's influence on its international student policy and aims to explore the globalization of higher education and the impact this has had on education systems around the world. There are nine chapters in this book in which chapter 5 and part of chapter 6 have been excerpted to this translation report.Translating selected chapters is not only helpful for China to understand the current situation of British international higher education, but also conducive to learning from the rich experience of the internationalization of British higher education, thereby accelerating the internationalization of Chinese higher education. The translation materials selected in this report are informative texts, which contain a large number of specialized vocabularies, unintelligible common vocabularies, passive sentences, parentheses and complex long sentences and difficult sentences, which are the features of the original text as well as the key points and difficulties in translation.Under the guidance of Newmark's communicative translation theory, the translator summaries the key points and difficulties into lexical and syntactic aspects and puts forward solutions to each level in order to make the translation acceptable to target readers.According to communicative translation theory, the translation of informative texts should not only ensure the accuracy, logic and coherence of information transmission, but also make the language intelligible and faithful to the readers. Therefore,at the lexical level, the translation of specialized vocabularies in this translation report adopts verification, explication and liberal translation methods to ensure the accuracy of the information. On the other hand, the translation of common vocabularies adopts liberal translation and addition method to ensure the smoothness and authenticity of translation. At the syntactic level, the author uses various methods such as conversion of passive sentence into activesentence, retention of passive sentence, addition method and adjustment of word order to make the translation more accurate and intelligible to target readers.Based on Newmark's theory of communicative translation, this report analyzes the key points and difficulties in the translation of informative texts, and summarizes the relevant translation methods and techniques.Through this report, the author sums up several translation methods and techniques that are applicable for translating information texts in social sciences. At the same time, this report can attract more readers to pay attention to the trend of international higher education,so as to provide guidance for China's international student recruiting policy.
