Personalized Education, the fifth chapter of College(Un)bound: The Future of Higher Education and What It Means for Students by Jeffery J.Selingo is chosen as the original text of the translation project. The excerpt mainly discusses that the teaching methods in the United States have undergone a revolutionary transformation. To be specific, with the advent of data-analyzing technology and the prevalence of online courses, the approaches of personalized education are becoming increasingly diversified. In contrast,in China, the data-analyzing technology currently has not been applied in the higher education system, therefore the original text is of great importance to be used as reference.Theoretically, the original text belongs to informative text according to the three text types defined by Peter Newmark.Accordingly, the author of the report employs the communicative translation theory as guidance in translation practice.Based on this, difficulties confronted in translation are analyzed with some examples. With regard to the translation of proper nouns, the author of the report adopts the methods of transliteration, free translation, literal translation plus generic word, the combination of transliteration and free translation. As to the translation of attributive-clause sentences, translation techniques like division, combination and mixture are applied in the report. Finally, the conclusion, including enlightenment and problems to be solved is presented.
