Snow Country,as a representative work of Yasunari Kawabata is characterized by its concise and unique language,delicate strokes and profound artistic conception.Snow Country contains a lot of Japanese national culture and traditional Japanese aesthetic consciousness,also embraces rich aesthetic information and high aesthetic value.And its Chinese translation has always attracted much attention from the translation studies.On the basis of clarifying the subject-object properties and relationships,contemporary translation aesthetics explores the types,means and standards of aesthetic representation in translation to guide translation practice.In previous studies,many literatures have demonstrated that translation aesthetics plays a guiding role in Chinese-English and other languages,but few studies have been conducted on Chinese-Japanese translation.Adopting text analysis and comparative analysis research methods this thesis selects the original works of Snow Country and its Chinese translations of Ye Weiqu,Gao Huiqin,and Lin Shaohua as research objects.Drawing on Professor Liu Miqing's theory of translation aesthetics this thesis first sorts out the theoretical framework of translation aesthetics constructed by Professor Liu Miqing,and then analyzes the aesthetic value of the original Snow Country from the aspects of natural aesthetics and character aesthetics.On this basis,with the aesthetic composition of translation aesthetic objects(original and translation),that is,the aesthetic information in the formal system and the non-formal system as the starting point,this paper compares and analyzes the different translators' treatment of the aesthetic information at all levels,to explore the degree of aesthetic reproduction of the three translations.This study makes a comparative analysis of the classic cases in translation,focusing on the aesthetic reproduction of phonetics,words,figures of speech and writing style in formal aesthetic information,as well as the aesthetic reproduction of emotion,intention,image and artistic conception in non-formal aesthetic information.It has been discovered that Chinese and Japanese belong to different language families,which are quite different.Therefore,it is impossible that aesthetic information in original text fully reproduced in Chinese version.However,translators can choose appropriate translation methods to process or re-create the aesthetic elements of the original text,and make the version and original text have same aesthetic effects so as to complete the aesthetic reproduction of translation.This study has certain research value on accounting of proving the effective explanatory power of translation aesthetics theory in the translation of Japanese literary works,broadening the perspective of the Chinese translation of Snow Country and exploring the feasibility and guiding significance of translation aesthetics theory in literary translation.
