The secondary education during the Anti Japanese war occupies an important position in the history of modern Chinese education.It not only undertakes the task of continuing to develop the education during the war,but also undertakes the important task of founding the nation during the Anti Japanese war.As a part of China,the development of the secondary education was a microcosm of Chinese education during the Anti Japanese war.After the outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War,Japanese aggressors pressed against China step by step,the war soon spread to Henan Province.In order to rule China for a long time,Japanese invaders everywhere,they wreaked havoc on the local educational facilities.In the face of the aggressive attack of the Japanese aggressors,and in order to avoid the destruction of the educational cause in Henan,the Henan provincial government,in accordance with the educational policy of the National Government of the Republic of China,to meet the needs of the educational development during the Anti-japanese War,measures were taken to adjust the educational policy,move inland,raise educational funds,adjust curriculum standards,and provide relief to the exiled teachers and students.Through the efforts of the provincial government,the secondary education in Henan was in a state of development as a whole during the war of resistance against Japanese aggression,but it was divided into three types,namely,the secondary education,the normal school and the vocational education,some schools suffered heavy losses during the war.In the secondary education,except for the county secondary schools,which were severely damaged and did not develop,the provincial secondary schools in Henan were not greatly affected compared with those before the war,and some schools were enlarged in size.In addition,due to the reduction of student resources during the war,the provincial government recruited students from the enemy-occupied areas as a source of development education.At a time when much of Henan was under siege and the number of out of school students was growing,and the existing schools did not have the capacity to accommodate such a large number of students,the National Government of the Republic of China decided to set up a secondary school in a war zone to accommodate these exiled students.To a certain extent,the setting of the schools in the war zone has solved the problem of the placement of these exiles.In addition to setting up schools in the war zone,the Henan provincial government has asked the provincial education department to build a joint middle school to accommodate students who are reluctant to leave the region because of their age,family and other issues.As for the normal education,it is developing on the whole,especially the provincial normal school.However,because of the influence of national education,the joint normal schools set up to meet the demand of rural primary school teachers and the planned county normal schools have not developed much because of the influence of the war.For the vocational education,the vocational education used to be a neglected educational institution in the secondary education.During the war,influenced by the idea of saving the country by Industry,the provincial government also strengthened its support to it,adding vocational schools,setting up subjects in urgent need,and some vocational schools were established one after another,but because of the war environment and the disasters of 1942 and 1943,vocational education did not develop.In short,the development of the secondary education faltered during the war.Its Development preserved the strength of Henan's education,prevented Henan's education from being interrupted due to the war,and trained a number of outstanding talents for the country,it has also played a positive role in supporting the People's Long-lasting Anti-japanese War,educational development and economic development in the kuomintang-controlled area of Henan Province.
