From Sacredness To Vulgarity:A Study On The Secularization Of Urban Buddhism

As an important social group,what changes have taken place in the trend of modernization?What are the internal and external causes of these changes?Are these changes conducive to the long-term development of religion?What are the contradictions in the process of change?This paper selects a religious form with the characteristics of the times,all of which are Buddhism,to study,This article takes the secular development of modern urban Buddhism as the main research subject,and discusses it on the basis of many field visits and a large number of literature analysesFirst of all,Briefly introduced the development of Buddhism in China,and the emergence and development of urban Buddhism,and found that Buddhism in the process of China's localization is also accompanied by secularization.Secondly,this paper discusses modern urban Buddhism from five aspects:the development concept,the way of propagating the Dharma,the scale of the monk group and the temple economy,the commandments of monk,and the diversity.Based on the basic spiritual and moral principles of Buddhism,this paper discusses three basic problems in the development of the secularization of modern urban Buddhism:the low degree of agreement The basic reason for the difficulties encountered by modern urban Buddhism in the process of secularization is that the spirit of Buddhist doctrine lags behind the material field in the process of secularization.It is the fundamental way to solve the contradiction between modern urban Buddhism and the real society in the development of secularization to attach importance to the inheritance of Buddhist spiritual doctrines and Buddhist laws.opposition between the sacred and the secular.Thirdly,from the theoretical development to individual practice and then to the revitalization of the spiritual culture of Buddhism,the paper puts forward specific measures:the spread of Buddhism should conform to the social reality,attach importance to the selective inheritance of tradition,and improve the quality of Buddhism of monks.Finally,it is concluded that the harmonious development of modern urban Buddhism in the modern secular society can only be achieved through the joint efforts of Buddhist organizations and believers in the world.The secularization is not a bad concept,we should pay more attention to the revival of Buddhist spiritual culture,so that modern urban Buddhism can move forward steadily in the development of secularization.
