This thesis roundly analyzes the transition of religious thoughts between traditional Seclusion Buddhism and modern Metropolis Buddhism, with the history of Buddhism thought as the longitude, and puts forward the modern transition of Metropolis Buddhism is the result of development of Humanistic Buddhism without deviating from its basic ideas and principles. From the perspective of the changes on social participation, the thesis gains the idea the modern transition of Metropolis Buddhism is the extension of social function caused by various modern social participation, with the modern social participation of Metropolis Buddhism as the woof. A perspective of history, the thesis further takes the case study of Kai-yuan Monastery of Fuzhou in the macro-environment of Metropolis Buddhism' development. The general description of Metropolis Buddhism' characteristics, manifests it's own characters of kai-yuan temple mainly by field work. Concerning Chinese understanding of secularization of religion, the thesis gives a new interpretation of it: weakening of the sacredness of religions in essence, and take the new orientation with the motivation of religious activities to measure the purity of sacredness. So that corrects the vague attitude of other scholar to the definition of the Secularization of Buddhism. It is my intension to provide a case in point which illustrates the modern operating patterns of Metropolis Buddhism. The research shows that it's advisable and valuable to do interdisciplinary study on the case of Buddhist monastery so as to reveals universal law of development of Metropolis Buddhism with respect to the principle of generality residing in individuality; reveals the historical necessity of indigenization and socialization from the view of Buddhist-sociology.
