Abstract/Summary:
Maritime English is a branch of EST(English for Science and Technology).In order to make the lan guage more accurate and specific,a large number of clauses are used to describe regulations,ship operations,safety guidelines,etc.The report takes Management Manual of ABC Cruise Company as translation text,which belongs to the official maritime documentThere are tremendous differences in expression and logical thinking between English and Chinese,an indication of which is that the two languages follow different orders to express highlights,the old and new information etc.Based on the Skopos Theory and the personal translation practice,translation strategies of the clause sequences of a number of complex sentences were examined and summarized,which mainly includes Linear translation,Prepositive translation,Postpositive translation,and Inverted translation.In the process of translation practice,the translator follows Skopos Theory as the primary guidance and manages intra-textual and inter-textual coherence to best ensure the quality of the translation.This translation practice provides the author with a chance to improve the translation ability by grasping the translation strategies of complex sentences as well as better knowledge of maritime terms.This report is presented for possible reference for similar translation work in the future.
