| With the implementation of the “ Belt and Road “ initiative,cooperation and exchanges between China and the countries along the Belt and Road have been expanding.Therefore,the importance of maritime English translation in the process of foreign exchanges has been further highlighted.Entrusted by School of Marine Science and Technology of Tianjin University,the author has translated the Maritime Project to promote the international exchanges and cooperation with foreign maritime institutions.The translation practice is English to Chinese.As a practical stylistic translation,maritime English has a clear purpose.In the level of vocabulary,it has a high degree of professionalism and many abbreviations,so accurate translation is needed to achieve communicative purpose.In the level of sentence,the use of long and difficult sentences and passive voice in maritime English are more frequent.To make the version faithful and coherent,it is necessary to translate the original text by means of decoding and voice conversion to make the targeted language in line with the reading habits of the Chinese readers.Guided by the three rules of Vermeer’s Skopos theory,the whole translation process is analyzed from the perspective of Skopos Rule,Coherence Rule and Fidelity Rule.The three rules of Vermeer’s Skopos theory is applicable to maritime English translation,so the theory is chosen as the theoretical guidance in this translation practice,aiming to prove that the three rules of Vermeer’s Skopos theory shall provide a faithful and coherent translation of maritime English and achieve communicative purpose.The report consists of four chapters.The first chapter is a brief introduction to the translation task,including the background,the content of the translation and the requirements of the client.The second chapter gives a description of the translation process,including the pre-translation preparation,translation implementation and proofreading.The third chapter is the principal part,making a detailed description of the theoretical guidance,the applicability of the three rules of Vermeer’s Skopos theory to maritime translation and case analysis.The fourth chapter is the summary of the experience acquired from the practice,which concludes the findings,conclusions,deficiencies and prospects for future translation activities.This translation practice is helpful for the translator to apply the three rules of Vermeer’s Skopos theory into this translation practice.Meanwhile,the translator will have a better comprehension about the theory.Finally,this report is expected to provide useful experience for the future translation task of the author while summing up the disadvantages and limitations of this translation practice. |
