| Proposals on Maritime conventions cover many areas such as shipping, shipbuilding, classification society, foreign trade, maritime insurance and maritime law. The present report is on translation of adverbial clause in maritime conventions drafts, including Guidelines for Port State control Inspection for Compliance with the BWM Convention and parts of Progress Report of the Correspondence Group on Assessment of Availability of Fuel Oil under MARPOL Annex VI. Three methods are applied in the translation of the adverbial clauses are based upon the theory of Equivalent Effect-proceeding position, post position and combining sentences. Moreover, the three translation methods are of great use, to a large extent, in a better grasping of the original text and more accurate translation of the context, which also helps target-language readers to achieve the real intention of the original text just as the source-language readers do. Furthermore, the causes of the problems we met in translation are classified into three groups and application of three ways serves as an appropriate solution to them. |
