Shipping company's work system manual plays a very important role in standardizing staff s behavior, improving their quality and working out the regulations. It is very important to prevent their dis-operation and avoid company's loss. Therefore,it is necessary to analyze and study the Chinese translation of the shipping company's work manual, which is directly related to the company's business development and economic interests. This paper is a translation practice report based on the Quality,Health,Safety and Environment Manual. It contains a large number of conditional sentences(about 70 places)and hence a study on the translation methods of conditional sentences is worthwhile.Based on Skopos theory, this translation practice report divides conditional sentences into real conditional sentences, unreal conditional sentences and implicit conditional sentences. On the basis of mastering the sentence structure and linguistic characteristics of conditional sentences in maritime English texts, and then according to the characteristics of Chinese conditional sentences, the author summarizes two specific translation methods, namely literal translation, free translation.Literal translation mainly adopts the method of direct translation, while free translation mainly adopts the translation methods of increasing and decreasing repetition, separating and combining displacement. When translating the conditional sentences in this paper, the author often analyzes them one by one according to their corresponding conditional sentence patterns. It is hoped that this translation practice report may provide reference for the translation of maritime related texts in the future.
