With the continuous development and progress of society, psychological problems of people in contemporary society are gradually revealed and those problems are gaining people’s attention. Thus, the translator has chosen a psychological text as the basis for this practice report.Trauma-The Invisible Epidemic, written by American author Paul Conti is used in this report as the original text, which provides a unique perspective on how trauma works and how it changes us,especially how it causes us to think and act differently. The original text is about psychology, which is typical of long sentences and a lot of specialized psychological vocabulary. It undoubtedly increases the difficulty of translation. In order to make the translation better appropriate to the original text, some theories must be selected to guide the translation. The German translator Hans Vermeer put forward the Skopos theory and advocated that the criterion for judging the translation is no longer “reciprocity”,but the adequacy of the translation to achieve the desired goal.More consideration should be given to the reading habits of the target language readers. Therefore,in the process of analyzing long sentences in this text, the translator adopted three translation methods under the guidance of Skopos theory, following the three principles and using the methods of sequence, reverse and conversion to thoroughly analyze long sentences in the text.In the process of translating the text, the translator’s own basic knowledge, skills and practical ability are greatly improved. At the same time,a purposeful, accurate and faithful translation of the selected text will help people to better understand trauma and build a strong inner world,as well as ensure that the harm caused by trauma is minimized. In addition, this translation practice report can provide a new pattern for similar text types,as well as serve as a reference for translators from home and abroad who are concerned with this topic.
