With the strengthening trend of globalization, countries around the world have started to promote the development of submarine, and China has also included this as an important part of the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics.Submarine Design and Development describes in detail the different types, design details, development process and prospect for the future of submarines in the world. And as a scientific and technical text with concise contents,a large number of passive sentences are used to make objective factual statements, which is a major difficulty for translation.Based on this, this paper will start from the perspective of Skopos theory and selects chapters 6-8 of Submarine Design and Development as the material text with the Skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule as the guiding rule to discuss the translation methods of passive sentences in English for science and technology. It is concluded that literal translation, voice conversion, and linear translation can be used for the translation of passive sentences with agents, and linear translation, free translation, and omission can be used for the translation of agentless passive sentences through examples. It is hoped that this paper can provide useful guidance and reference for the translation of passive sentences in EST and also contribute to the development of Chinese submarine industry.
