This report is based on a simulated interpreting practice. The practice is on the basis of the documentary The Source of Energy which is broadcast by China Central Television. The interpreter simulates a scene of Chinese-English consecutive interpretation, and records the process. Then the record is converted into words.According to Interpretive Theory, the interpreter finds some problems in the practice.Eventually the interpreter finds corresponding methods to solve these problems and summarizes interpreting skills. The whole process is divided into two major parts. Before the interpreting, the interpreter conducts 4 types of preparatory work: background knowledge, technical terms, practice of interpreting skills, and psychological quality. In the part of interpreting practice, the report describes the process of interpreting. There are some differences between the linguistic expression of Chinese and English, because Chinese lays stress on “parataxis” but English lays stress on “hypotaxis”.The interpreter analyses and solves these problems in the chapter of case analysis according to Interpretive Theory. The interpreter applies amplification and conversion to solve problems in words.Redundancy should be omitted or added during interpreting. When interpreter interprets sentences, combination, division and passive voice are used. The last chapter of this report is the conclusion. It summarizes the features and gains of the practice. The interpreter hopes this report can provide experience and help other interpreters to improve such interpretation in the future.
