This report presents a detailed description on one consecutive interpretation task by the author for Dr.Eric’s lecture in Stomatology Hospital of Lanzhou. Based on the audio-converted text of a medical lecture,this report analyzes various problems encountered in the preparation and on-the-spot stage. At the end of the report, the author examines the medical interpreting problems and proposes some solutions.This report covers five parts: introduction, task description, interpreting process, case analysis and the task summary of the interpreting practice. The first part gives a brief introduction to the interpreting task. In the second part, the author describes the details of the task and requirements from the entrusting party. While the interpreting process description is presented in the third part, where the author focuses on the elaboration of the pre-interpreting preparation and on-the-spot stage, concerning how to familiarize background information and prepare vocabulary. In the forth part, the author analyzes various problems in interpreting practice, including the application of deverbalization in interpreting, the importance of pre-interpreting preparation, how to control author’s interpreting attitude, and the application of information omission and supplementation. The last part is the summary of the interpreting practice. The task description and analysis indicate: 1. Pre-interpreting which is the prerequisite of calm interpreting is important to the whole task. 2.Two-way communication is a bridge to eliminate doubts and misunderstanding. The interpreter should communicate with the entrusting party actively to guarantee the success of the whole task. 3. Good mental quality and interpretation skills are crucial for an interpreter.
