A Report On C-E Consecutive Interpreting Of The 3rd China-ASEAN Higher Education Cooperation Forum-from The Perspective Of The Interpretive Theory

This report is about the C-E consecutive interpreting done by the author and her translation teacher who were responsible for the C-E consecutive interpreting during the3~rdd China-ASEAN Higher Education Forum.This report will analyse and discuss the C-E consecutive interpretation practice from the perspective of Seleskovitch's Interpretive Theory,and discuss the effectiveness of the selected interpretation strategies.The Interpretive Theory proposes the Triangular Model:comprehension,deverbalization and re-expression,emphasizing that the interpreter should accurately convey the meaning and emotion of the speaker,rather than the language form.In this practice,the author is required to effectively screen and integrate the spokesperson's information according to the situation on the spot.With the application of the interpreting strategies such as omission,free translation,amplification and sentence reorganisation,the author manages to complete the task as required smoothly.As a result,the author chooses the Interpretive Theory as the guiding theory for the post-task analysis process with the hope to provide some reference for the selection of interpreting strategies for similar C-E interpretation projects in the future.This report is divided into four chapters.The first chapter serves as the introduction,the second chapter describes the interpretation process,and the third chapter will analyze the case from the perspective of the Interpretive Theory.As the main body of this report,chapter three first introduces the Interpretive Theory and then analyses the typical examples selected from the author's interpretation process from the perspective of the Interpretive Theory.The fourth chapter is summary and reflection,in which the author summarizes the implications,findings and limitations in this practice and puts forward some suggestions for the future interpreting study.Based on this practice and analysis,the author notes that in C-E consecutive interpretation,interpreting tactics such as omission,free translation,amplification and sentence reorganisation are valid strategies.By a preliminary discussion of the application of the Interpretive Theory in C-E consecutive interpreting,the author is looking forward to more in-depth researches by more scholars or interpreters in this field and hopes that this report can give some help in C-E consecutive interpreting practice in the future.
