With the improvement of living standard,the public begin to change from caring for food to eating for health.In recent years,fitness sports have been increasingly popular and they have received widespread attention and participation.Especially,after the 2008 Olympic Games,the public's attention to sports has been growing.However,the public know relatively little about the origin of fitness programs and the history of the Olympic Games.Chinese-translated books on this topic will give Chinese readers a better understanding of health and fitness as well as its related content,and also provide some practical reference for relevant personnel.This thesis is an English-Chinese practice report.The translator selects Chapter ten to thirteen of A History of Health and Fitness:Implications for Policy Today as the translation practice and research object.The book was published in November 2017 by Springer Press,one of the world's largest science and technology publishers.The author,Roy J Shephard,is a Canadian expert in fitness and health.This thesis is composed of two parts:translation and comment.The first part is the translation of the source text "A History of Health and Fitness:Implicationsfor Policy Today "(Chapters 10-13),totaling 15,567 words.The text is an informative text.The selected chapters tell the origin of several ancient civilization sports,the history of the Olympic Games as well as some health care knowledge.The second part is the translator's comment on the translation process.Firstly,the translator introduces the translation project,including the background,purpose and significance of the translation project.Based on the understanding of the source text,the translator chooses the communicative translation theory contributed by the famous British translator Peter Newmark as the theoretical guide.The translator then introduces the source text,referring to the author of the source text,the general idea and its linguistic features.The translator analyzes the linguistic features of the source text from lexical features,syntactic features and contextual featxures Then the translation process is described by the translator.The translation process consists of preparations before translation,difficulties encountered in translation and quality eontrol of the post-translation.Subsequently,the translator conducts case analysis on the translation of terminology,passive sentences and long sentences.The division is applied to handle the long sentences and the interpreting,conversion as well as amplification translation methods are applied with an intention to make the target text more in line with the expression habits of the targeted language readers.Finally,the translator concludes the experience she has received in this translation practice and the problems to be solved.Through this translation practice,the translator has a deeper understanding of the related knowledge of health and fitness while broadening the relevant knowledge.Meanwhile,the translator's translation skills are consolidated and the translation ability is improved.This translation practice enhances the translator's ability to use translation theories and lays a good foundation for ftuture translation practice.
