With the improvement of people's living standards and the gradual enrichment of spiritual eivilization, more and more people begin to pay attention to physical fitness and pursue a healthier lifestyle. What measures and policies can stimulate people's fitness enthusiasm and create a healthy lifestyle atmosphere for people are becoming more and more important.Based on such a realistic situation and strong interest in fitness, the translator chooses a book on the theme of the history of health and fitness for English-Chinese translation practice in order to make the target language readers know more about health and fitness. The translation project A History of Health&Fitness:Implications for Policy Today is written by Roy J.Shephard,a Canadian fitness and health expert. The translator selects Chapters Seven and Eight of the book as translation materials. The selected chapters mainly introduce sports and recreations of the Enlightenment and the Victorian era,as well as the attitudes of people from all walks of life in the two periods on health and fitness.Implications for current policies are summarized. In the process of source text translation, the translator uses the Skopos theory proposed by the German functionalist theorist Hans Vermeer to guide the translation practice.Following the Skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule, the translator uses appropriate translation methods during translating. This thesis is a translation practice report. The first part is the introduction to the translation project, which describes the background, purpose and significance of the translation project and the structure of the translation practice report. The second part is the introduction of the author, the content and linguistic features of the source text. The third part is the description of pre-translation,while-translation and quality control.Pre-translation involves theoretical guidance of the translation, parallel texts reading, and preparation of translation tools. The fourth part is difficulties and methods. This chapter describes the difficulties in the practical translation practice. In line with the Skopos theory, the translator focuses on how to apply amplification, conversion, and inversion to solve the problems encountered in the process of translation practice. The fifth part is the conclusion, which summarizes the experience learmed in the translation practice and practice report, and summarizes the limitations existed and problems to be solved in the translation process. This translation practice enriches the translator's experience, enabling the translator to have a deeper understanding of sports and recreations, health and fitness during the Enlightenment and Victorian era,and to have a deeper comprehension and application of Skopos theory and translation methods. At the same time, this translation practice allows the translator to understand that full preparations before translating and proper use of online resources contribute to the success of translation practice. On the other hand, the translator also hopes to provide valuable references for researchers and enthusiasts in this field by analyzing examples and inducting translation methods in the translation practice.
