Vocabulary is the cornerstone of English learning and the basis for students to further improve their abilities of listening,speaking,reading and writing.According to the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education of 2011 edition,Grade Two of junior high school students’ English level should meet the requirements of the fourth degree,which means students is asked to understand simple conversations in daily life and read simple English newspapers and periodicals.The realization of this goal is inseparable from the learning of English words.However,junior high school students generally have problems in words pronunciation and spelling at present.They lack effective words learning methods and they still rely on rote memorization to master the pronunciation and spelling,which is a waste of time and has not received good learning effect.Given the importance of words learning in English learning,this study based on the concept of Phonics,combining the theory of Constructivism and the theory of Language Transfer to apply Phonics method in English teaching of Grade Two of junior high school,which included 40 students and lasted for 18 weeks.Another 40 students were chosen as a control class to make a comparison with the experimental class.The purpose of this study is to explore whether the Phonics method can improve students’ ability of English words pronunciation and spelling,so as to solve the problems about words pronunciation and spelling,and provide an effective learning method for students to learn words.In this thesis,subjects were 80 students who were from two classes of the internship school.The experiment lasted for 18 weeks from the beginning of September 2018 to Mid-January 2019.The research instruments in this study included questionnaire and words tests.After that,the collected data was analyzed with SPSS,and the analysis results of the experimental class and the control class were compared horizontally and vertically.The experimental results showed that 1)Phonics method was helpful to improve students’ words pronunciation ability.2)Phonics method could improve students’ words spelling ability.3)Phonics method could facilitate students’ positivity in vocabulary learning.Based on the experimental results,this thesis proposed to use various activities in the future teaching to promote the implementation of Phonics teaching,and to combine with effective practice to consolidate the teaching effect of Phonics.Based on the researches of others,this thesis practiced the Phonics method once again,providing teaching cases for the future applicationof the Phonics in junior high schools’ English vocabulary teaching.
