Vocabulary is the basis of language.For a long time,English teachers in junior high schools often use the International Phonetic Alphabet to teach the pronunciation of words.In the process of teaching,teachers lack the guidance of summarizing the pronunciation rules and memorizing methods of words.The single teaching method,the increasing requirement of English vocabulary and the difficulty of reading and memorizing vocabulary have seriously frustrated the enthusiasm of junior high school students in learning English.In view of these problems,the author consulted the literature on vocabulary teaching at home and abroad,and realized that the application of Phonics in vocabulary teaching can enable students to improve the efficiency of English vocabulary learning by learning the pronunciation of 26 letters and letter combinations in words and finding out the rules between letters and letter combinations.In view of the above,this paper designs six-step strategy based on the key period hypothesis and language transfer theory for junior high school English vocabulary teaching of Phonics according to the objectives in English curriculum standards,and relevant literature at home and abroad as well as the characteristics and principles of teaching design.Firstly,through questionnaire survey method and interview method to understand the specific problems of English vocabulary teaching in junior high school,and to solve problems,we redesign the teaching of English vocabulary.That is the design of English vocabulary teaching in junior high schools based on the six-step Phonics.After that,according to the English vocabulary teaching design of six-step Phonics,taking Unit 4 Section A 1a from Grade seven English textbook of PEP as an example,this paper makes a concrete teaching design from six aspects which are pre-teaching analysis,teaching content analysis,teaching goal setting,teaching strategy selection,teaching activity analysis and teaching evaluation analysis.Through the research,the following conclusions are drawn:(1)Through questionnaire survey method and interview method,it is found that there are many difficulties in English vocabulary learning for junior high school students due to the lack of efficient vocabulary learning methods,and teachers are also neglected to guide students in systematic learning methods under the pressure of examination-taking.(2)The arrangement of teaching content of each unit in the textbook is from shallow to deep,which can provide textual support and a lot of material for the vocabulary teaching design based on the six steps of Phonics.(3)Through the reflecting of Unit4 Section A 1a teaching design cases in the English textbook,it is found that the teaching design can present rich and colorful activities,reasonable teaching objectives,clear teaching process and comprehensive teaching evaluation.However,the connection of various teaching links still needs to be further improved.
