In a unit review class,students are required to summarize the knowledge and have a deep understanding of knowledge that they have acquired in this unit,which should be a process of weaving the parts of a unit into a whole network.However,because of the limited teaching time and the pressure of the examination,in the unit review class,the teacher tends to ask the students to read,recite and write the key words,key sentences and dialogues in this unit.Therefore,the unit review class becomes the class of mechanical recitation.As a result,the students lose their interest in the English review classes and the efficiency is generally low.As a thinking tool,the mind map is helpful for learners to make the implicit knowledge explicit and visualize the language information,so that students can construct a clear knowledge network and integrate scattered knowledge into “blocks” that are both interrelated and relatively independent,which is helpful for students to understand and remember.The author tries to apply mind map to the unit review class to solve the problems of students' low interest and ability.The specific research questions include: 1)Whether the application of mind map in English unit review classes for senior grades can improve students' learning achievement.2)Whether the application of mind map in English unit review classes for senior grades can improve students' learning interest.The author conducted this study by using tests,questionnaires and interview.This study takes the students from two parallel classes of grade six taught by the author as subjects.One is the experimental class and the other is the control class.In the experimental class,mind map was adopted while in the control class,the author used the traditional method.Other variables were strictly controlled.Then the author tested each unit after the review class,and collected test data of the six units.In addition,the questionnaire and individual interview were conducted in the experimental class to acquire the students' views on mind map and unit review class.After the experiment and the analysis of the experimental data,the author acquired the following findings: Firstly,the application of mind map to the senior grades English unit review class can improve students' learning achievement to some extent.Secondly,the application of mind map to the senior grades English unit review class is helpful to improve the students' interest in learning.At the same time,during the process of research,the author also got a lot of implications,which laid a foundation for the future teaching practice and teaching research.
