Color paintings have been developed in the Ming and Qing dynasties and stretched from the Forbidden City to various regions,and there is a relatively complete color painting system preserved in the Forbidden City.As an indispensable part of ancient Chinese architecture,color painting has a luminous historical background,rich cultural connotation and graceful design language.The current research on color painting mainly focuses on discerning the age of it,the decorative features of it,and the repair of it,and most of them are theoretical knowledge.Most of the design applications for color paintings are focused on architecture,and the technique is simple and clear without excessive design performance.The author manifests the art of color painting with modern design techniques and expects to enrich the study of color painting through new design methods and new aesthetic trends.This paper studies from two aspects of theoretical research and design practice and explores the role and value of the Liang Fang color painting of the Forbidden City.Firstly,study the history and development of color painting from a theoretical perspective,it is found that color painting has undergone two dynasties of development,its patterns,colors,and craftsmanship would change over time.They imply a rich cultural connotation behind the beauty of the form of color paintings.Secondly,from the three aspects of composition,decoration and color of color painting,this paper analyzes the design aesthetics of color painting and its performance in modern design,through flexible variation and finds that it is feasible to integrate color painting into modern design.Thirdly,according to the theoretical research,the color painting is integrated into the modern design and through the innovative application of the color painting in the design,it is found that the innovative design of the color painting is represented by re-extraction design of pattern and color application rules and selection of craft.Finally,through specific design practice,the formal beauty of color painting art is integrated into modern design.Based on the exploration of the design beauty of color painting image,the spiritual and cultural connotation behind color painting is explored,combining the beauty of appearance and deep moral,color painting and design practice to create products with modern aesthetic adaptation.It reaches a conclusion from above research and practice,the innovative design of Liang Fang color painting in the Forbidden City is to combine traditional Chinese art with modern design methods,integrate cultural spirit into modern creative ideas,and design products with integration of traditional and fashion design,so that the color paintings can be revitalized in modern design forms,provide a precedent for the future art research of color painting.At the same time,propagating the color painting through the design of color painting elements,and people will pay attention to the color paintings and learn more about excellent traditional culture and art.
