| With the rapid development of science and technology, all countries in the world more value the importance of science and technology than before. Therefore,to better communicate with other countries,EST translation is becoming more and more significant. This thesis is based on Now You’re Talking: Human Conversation from the Neanderthals to Artificial Intelligence, which is written by Trevor Cox.The project focuses on the sound development of artificial intelligence robots.Although artificial intelligence is developing rapidly in the world, there is not much research on how artificial intelligence robots make sounds and communicate with human beings. This report mainly includes task description, translation process, translation case analysis and translation summary. The report analyses the typical cases from the lexical and syntactic aspects based on the guidance of Eugene Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory. This theory aims to reproduce the original information with the closest natural equivalent so that the target readers could understand the information which the author wants to convey.Combined with the theory, the translator makes use of many translation methods and skills to translate, like conversion of part of speech, amplification and omission etc.The translator combines the cases with the Functional Equivalence Theory to solve the problems encountered during translation which could convey the original meaning better.Through the translation practice, the author realizes that in order to be a good translator, one should not only have a solid professional knowledge but also be proficient in applying translation methods and strategies. The author hopes this report could provide some valuable reference for the people who are interested in EST translation. |
