The translation practice is based on the first two chapters of Accident Tolerant Materials for Light Water Reactor Fuels, witten by Raul Rebeck, considered as the translation source text, and adopts the functional equivalence theory as the theoretical guide to summarize the translation methods and skills in translating science and technology texts.Accident Tolerant Materials for Light Water Reactor Fuels is based on the current status of the development of reactor materials in various countries, providing an indepth introduction to the materials used in various reactors. The selected two chapters focus on the advantages and uses of nuclear energy, the construction of the reactor and the status of light reactor materials. In order to solve the difficulties of translation and better reproduce the connotation of the source text, the translator uses the functional equivalence theory to guide the practice and adopts the translation methods of augmentation, provincial translation, reorganization, and reduction to realize the equivalence between the source text and the target language. In the translation process, the translator mainly makes case analysis from four aspects: vocabulary, sentence, text, and style. The main findings are displayed as followed: at the vocabulary level, the translator should pay attention to ensuring the accuracy of professional vocabulary;at the sentence level, the translator should pay more heed to the logic between phrases;at the text level, the translator should pay attention to the coherence between sentences;at the style level, the translator should focus on the expression characteristics of scientific and technological style to ensure the accuracy in conveying scientific and technological information. This report is divided into five chapters. The first chapter introduces the background and significance of the translation task, the source text and language features. The second chapter is the description of the translation process, including pretranslation,while-translation and post-translation.The third chapter is the literature review on nuclear power and functional equivalence theory. The fourth chapter analyzes the case from four levels of vocabulary, sentence, text and style. The fifth chapter is the conclusion, which summarizes the gains and shortcomings in the translation practice.
