This is a translation report. It consists of two objectives. The first one is a translation practice with special attention to the youth literature. The second one is a theoretical attempt of functional equivalence theory, based on the source text analysis linguistically and strategically. The original text is the excerpt from Turtles All the Way Down by John Green,a well-known American youth literature writer. With youth growth as its theme, the novel fully depicts a sensitive girl Aza,whose personal experience and life adventure brought about her mental and physical growth.Youth literature is one of the literary genre, distinctive in style with particular objectives and inherent identification. It is featured by reflecting the life of a specific youth group in the society.By resonating with readers' emotion, this genre of work is of high value in the shaping of youth character in physical and mental growth. On the translation of youth literature with relatively rare themes as Turtles All the Way Down, reflecting the author's intention and connotation squarely and holistically is the focus and difficulty of the practice. This paper is purposed to explore youth literature translation under Nida's functional equivalence theory.Abide by the principle of faithfulness and smoothness, the author attempts to exemplify the translation strategies and interpretative perspectives present in the source language. With a focus on the application of lexical conversion in E-C translation, the author,by identifying varied cases in the novel, analyzes how Nida's translation strategies are tactically employed to help gain an effectiveness both linguistically and ideologically. Here, translation methods such as conversion, amplification and inversion are specifically exposed.Further, problem discussion is done from the lexical, syntactic and discourse level. It is particularly in need to look into the context analysis so that the translation will not deviate from the source language meaning and the ideological connotation. There are three questions to be answered.First, what is the language style of youth literature ? Second, how to choose the coherent language style in line with the original work of its time;third, what devices and approaches are appropriately adopted to keep the originality in meaning and in mind.It is concluded that the functional equivalence theory helps translators broaden their minds and vision in effective use of translation methods and strategies. It is theauthor's hope that the practice and the study of the youth literature will aid in a better understanding of translation theory and enhance the communicative effectiveness through literature.
