This translation project is focused on the theoretical practice of Analysis of Context.It is to explore the context of linguistics,situation and culture based on the original work The Music Shop.With the music,a savior for the broken-souls,as theme,the translation of the novel is specified to be intriguing and challenging.The purpose of the writer here is to employ Context strategy in the translation to help readers communicate complex message efficiently and sufficiently.It is the hope that the translation of The Music Shop will help readers appreciate the work with a pure soul and feel the warmth,genuineness,goodness and the beauty of human nature.In translation,scholars often adapt the cohesion theory or the dynamic equivalence to guide their translation.However,they pay less attention to the theories on context.Let alone the relation between the context and the source language text as well as the importance of the context in translation.In The Music Shop,whose theme is rare,a strategic use of Context Analysis will enhance the translation quality and keep intact the original literary book in meaning and content.This translation project aims to solve three problems.As a translator,firstly,how to choose the coherent language style in line with the original work of this Age?Secondly,how to exactly decode the meanings of the individual words and sentences? Finally,what approaches helps target language readers better understand the foreign music culture?This translation project is based on the three major divisions of the context concept by Halliday.That is to deeply analyze and interpret the original book through the analysis of the contexts involving linguistics,situation and culture,while adopting the rewriting,division and adding translation methods.The strategic use of the context theory is writer's attempt at fulfilling the meanings of the original work,reproducing the vivid language features and gentle word of the writer as well as manifesting the musical enlightening influence on human nature.This paper emphasizes the significant role of the analysis of contexts,which enable the translator to have a clear choice in translation methods and strategies.And I wish the trail of translating this novel into Chinese can work as a guidance ofresearching the characteristics of contemporary British literature in the 21 st century.
