This translation report summarizes the skills of a real translation project that the translator participates in.In the first half year of 2016,entrusted by Tianjin Jiebinuo Co.Ltd.,the translator, together with the other member of the translation team, fulfilled this translation task between English and Chinese. The translation task concerns the relevant information on the real estate development projects called “Paradise” in Ontario,Canada. There are two factors for which the translator chose the document of Immigration Guidance Manual for Ontario,Canada,2016(abbreviated as 2016 IGMOC)as the topic of this translation practice report.First of all,the Ontario immigration policies in Canada are increasingly concerned by Chinese immigrants. However, the domestic immigration information in China is often delayed in updating and vague in interpreting, which cannot meet the target readers’ reference needs.Second, after she had finished translating and delivered it to the receiver, the translator conducted a three-month internship in an immigration company and had a more in-depth understanding of the immigration policies. And the translator has acquired more effective translation techniques to summarize. The source-text of 2016 IGMOC is official in style and concise in language. In this report, the translator mainly summarizes the experience of the translation of numbers, terminology, syntax, style, and analyzes the improprieties during translation, which includes three main parts. The first part involves machine-assisted translation tools: 1)The translator ought to search for immigrant-related terms in multiple channels before translating.2)The consulting and analysis of online parallel texts play a key role in the completion of the whole translation procedure.3)The translator can search the common Chinese collocation in the corpus of Center for Chinese Linguistics regarding normalizing target texts. The second part involves translation skills: 1)The translator ought to keep the consistency of terms before, during and after the translation.2)Linearity,division could be adopted in translating long sentences.3)Redundant information needs to be removed and words need to be refined. And readability is required to be improved. The third part involves project management: 1)The translator should make reasonable arrangement of time.Particularly, time should be set aside for revising the translation. The author of this translation report hopes to provide some references for the translation of similar documents by the translation techniques gained.
