This is a translation report of the first chapter of The Economic and Fiscal Consequences of Immigration,which gives an overall analysis of the background of immigration and mainly deals with the brief introduction of the economic and fiscal influences of immigration.This thesis can be divided into five parts: i)introduction,ii)analysis of the source text,iii)translation process and related theory,iv)translation methods and skills and v)conclusion.Among the five parts,the fourth part is the core of this report,which describes how the translator handles the difficulties in the process of translation under the guidance of the communicative translation theory of Newmark.As an informative text with high academic value,the source text has many terminologies,difficult words and complicated sentences in it,which inevitably cause great troubles for the translator.The translation of the book can give readers new insights into the immigration policy of the United States.Besides,readers can know more about the makeup of the U.S economy as well as the relations between immigration and economy.
