Curriculum leadership is not only the intrinsic requirement to deepen curriculum reform and implement core qualities,but also a practical need to promote teachers' professional development and team building.As the teaching research organization at school,the teaching and research group is an important organizational support for the curriculum construction,and an organizational carrier for the school curriculum reform.The research on the curriculum leadership of the teaching and research group is conducive to the promotion of the construction of teaching and research group.And meanwhile,it enriches and specifies relevant researches on the curriculum leadership at school level.This paper investigates English teachers of eight high schools in the main urban area of Xi'an and explores the present situation of curriculum leadership from six dimensions,namely,curriculum awareness,curriculum teaching,curriculum experience sharing,curriculum external related people,curriculum resources development and curriculum policy.It also explores whether there are significant differences concerning gender,professional title,teaching age,position and academic qualification of English teachers.It proposes suggestions and strategy in the light of in-depth interviews with the head of teaching and research group of School F.The findings of this study are as follows.The overall situation of curriculum leadership in the teaching and research group is good,among which the situation of curriculum external related people and curriculum policy are comparatively poor.There is no significant difference between teachers of different genders.The second-level teachers and the first-level teachers are obviously better than the third-level teachers in curriculum leadership;the senior teachers are significantly better than the third-level,second-level and first-level teachers.Teachers whose teaching age is over 15 years or less than one year perform better than those withteaching age of 1-5 years or 5-15 years.The group leaders of teaching and research group perform significantly better than ordinary teachers,class head teachers and team leaders for lesson preparation.There is no significant difference between teachers with different educational backgrounds.Only in the group of teachers with teaching age of 1-5 years,those with master's degree are significantly better than those with undergraduate education.Suggestions are made as follows.Firstly,the teaching and research group should help the external related people to understand the curriculum information participate in it,and provide feedbacks so that they can become part of the curriculum leadership.Secondly,all curriculum stakeholders should strengthen professional learning and make professional curriculum decisions on the basis of cooperation,communication and dialogue.Thirdly,the teaching and research group should give full play to the professional influence of senior teachers and help other teachers grow up.Fourthly,schools and education departments should do their best to improve the status of teachers,increase teachers' autonomous participation,reduce teachers' workload and class hours,so as to reduce the impact of their job burnout.Finally,young teachers with undergraduate degrees should strive for more learning opportunities to make up for the gap caused by lack of academic qualifications.
