With the change of the principal contradiction in society,the competition of knowledge and talents has become an important factor affecting the development of the country.Teachers are essential to the cultivation of national talents,and the overall level of teachers’ professional development will directly affect the quality of talent training in our country.Therefore,it is quite necessary to improve teachers’ professional development level.The promulgation of the New Curriculum Standard of English for Senior High School(2017)means that a new round of curriculum reform has begun.The new curriculum reform not only puts forward new demands and challenges,but also provides opportunities for English teachers’ professional development.Teachers are the key figures of education reform,and their professional development level will affect the implementation of the new curriculum reform.Therefore,it is urgent to understand the current situation of English teachers’ professional development and find out the problems in the process of teachers’ professional development.Based on life-long learning theory and Maslow’s theory of hierarchy of needs,this study takes 128 English teachers from three key public senior high schools in Hengshui City of Hebei Province as the research subjects.The study adopts questionnaire and interview to collect information about teachers’ professional development from the perspective of professional knowledge,professional ability,professional emotion,professional development awareness and professional development needs.Then Excel2016 is used to analyze the data.The purpose of the study is to explore the current situation of the professional development of senior high school English teachers in this area,find out the problems and influencing factors of teachers’ professional development,so as to promote the professional development of senior high school English teachers in this area and ensure the smooth implementation of the new curriculum reform.The results show that senior high school English teachers in this area lack knowledge of other subjects,second language acquisition,educational research methods and new curriculum reform;lack reflection and scientific research ability;lack professional development awareness,firm professional belief and clear career planning.In view of the above problems,the study analyzes the influencing factors of teachers’ professional development from external and internal aspects,then puts forward some suggestions from the aspects of teachers,schools and government,hoping to provide some references for the professional development of senior high school English teachers in this area. |
