This report studies the translation of Chapter One,Chapter Six and Chapter Seven of the book All about Biaoju. The main content of the excerpted text can be summarized as follows: C hapter one gives a general introduction to the Biaoju.Chapter six tells the rules of goods escorting and security protection.Chapter seven reveals the profits of Biaoju and escorts. With detailed analysis of the content of source text, the translator finds that it is featured by words with Chinese cultural connotation, complex sentences and discourse excerpted from novel and anecdote. To some extent, these features at lexical, syntactic and discoursal levels bring about proportional difficulties in the translation practice.Based on the preceding feature analysis and translation difficulties of the source text, the translator chooses Skopos theory to guide the translation of the excerpted text.Skopos theory holds that translation is an activity with purpose, and the purpose of translation determines the means of it.In order to meet the needs of the target readers and spread Chinese culture to the outside world, the translator adopts skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule to elaborate specific problems encountered in the translation process. In terms of translation methods,at the lexical level, the translator adopts methods like transliteration, transliteration with footnote, and amplification to translate the words with Chinese cultural connotations;at the syntactic level, the translator employs methods of omission, reconstruction, free translation and amplification to translate complex sentences;at the discoursal level, the translator chooses methods like combination, reconstruction, omission and free translation to obtain a coherent translation. And this report aims at providing several practical translation methods and techniques for other translators on their translation practice of Chinese cultural text. This report is divided into four parts: The first part mainly introduces the task background, objectives, significance and framework of the translation task;the second introduces translation process, including the analysis of features and content of source text before translation, the difficulties encountered in in translation process and post-translation management,as well as introduction to the Skopos theory;the third analyzes the typical translation examples from lexical, syntactic and discoursal levels guided by the Skopos theory;and the last summarizes the experience, deficiencies and suggestions for the translation task.
