To promote the spread of Chinese culture,establish a good international image,and enrich the content of global culture,the external promotion of Chinese documentary films is increasing.Thus,the study of documentary subtitle translation has practical and academic significance that cannot be underestimated.This thesis selects the CCTV documentary series Aerial China as the translation text.Guided by Translation Adaptation Theory introduced by Professor Hu Gengshen at Tsinghua University,this translation practice report aims to study the difficulties of documentary subtitle translation and explore how to improve the quality of documentary subtitle translation.Combining with the author’s own experience in translation and proof reading,as well as other related studies,the author summarizes the three characteristics of documentary subtitle translation,namely,synchronicity,spatiality and popularization of the register.In order to reproduce and adapt to the translation ecological environment of the original documentary as much as possible,combine with the translation of the documentary’s translation ecological environment to "select" the translation,the author summarizes the corresponding translation strategies through the analysis of specific translation and proofreading instances-adaptive selection conversion in language dimension,cultural dimension and communication dimension.This three-dimensional adaptive selection conversion can synchronize the translation with the picture,make the translation meet the limitation of limited screen space,and can also satisfy the purpose of mass culture communication.Therefore,the author summarizes the practical experience of translation,expecting to provide a reference for translators engaged in translating documentary subtitles in the future. |
