| China’s political and economic influence has been constantly enhanced since the 21 st century.China’s development has attracted global attention and many countries begun to pay more importance to cultural exchange and cooperation with China.There have been more and more foreign documentaries about China.Subtitle translation plays an important role in the introduction of foreign documentaries.The case studied in this paper is the translation of an English documentary named Decoding Ancient Chinese Gardens which introduces classical gardens of Suzhou and customs of Chinese people from the perspective of foreigners.By analyzing the characteristics of documentary subtitles as well as temporal and spatial limitations of subtitle translation and cultural elements,this essay compares two different translation versions and explores the strategies of translating English subtitles into Chinese from three aspects: vocabulary,sentence and style. |
