The HSK Standard Course 3,published by the Beijing Language and Culture University,is a textbook designed to cater to those students who find themselves in a classroom setting alongside a curriculum.It is used widely to teach the Chinese language to those who speak other languages as their mother tongue.Published in accordance under the jurisdiction of the Office of Chinese Language Council International(known colloquially as "Hanban"),the publication has been proven to provide great influence and structure in Chinese Language education.The All You Need for the New HSK Level 3 is published by the Korean Private Publishing House.Unlike the HSK Standard Course 3,the All You Need for the New HSK Level 3 targets a much more specific audience.It is geared specifically towards those that are or can understand Korean who wish to take the HSK level 3 test.Also,unlike its counterpart,this textbook does not require an instructor;rather,it is more suitable for those who wish to self-learn and are inclined to take the exam.The reason why these two textbooks were chosen,specifically with the new HSK level 3 in mind,is that the 3rd level of the HSK becomes a turning point for those that are learning the Chinese language.Some may continue their learning of the Chinese language by moving on to take the 4th level of the HSK,while for some this is the level they discontinue to do so.Thus,the textbooks for HSK3 play a crucial role in Chinese language learning.In this research,these two textbooks were compared to highlight the unique function,as well as some underlying commonalities that reference for Korean and non-Korean students in choosing their educational materials as their gear up to take the exam.This will not only introduce non-linear ways to learn the Chinese language but the diverse ways in which it can be effectively learned as well.In addition to the compare and contrast method,learners were also surveyed by the users’ satisfaction,practicality and learning effects of the two textbooks via questionnaires.Through data analysis,this study aims to provide with realistic suggestions regarding the further development and improvement of their Chinese language textbooks.
