In recent years,Korean films, which have gone through a lot of ups and downs, have rapidly become the representative of new Asian films by virtue of their unique national temperament and spiritual state, strong integration of film types and self-renewal ability. In the 1990 s,as a master of Korean genre films, famous Korean directors such as Bong Joon-ho,Kim Ki-duk and Park Chan-wook came into the audience’s view together. His career as a film director has gone through three historical stages: the initial stage(2000-2003),the mature stage(2003-2009)and the transitional stage(2013-present).The turbulent historical traces and the rocking fate of the characters in his works reflect the social context of Korean modern times and the growing environment of Joo-ho Bong. From his debut work "Barking Dogs Never Bite" to his startling performance in "Memories of Murder" to the international fame of "Snowpiercer",Bong Joon-ho’s films have a strong sense of social problems. He is good at exploring the changes of the world in movies and discovering the hands behind the history. In his films, the audience can see the most cruel things in Korean society: the loss of national identity and the painful memory created by military dictatorship, the plight of the bottom people, and the "unsolved" ending strategy, all of which expose the national scars and social pain of Korea. He melted this special cultural psychology formed by Korean people in the long history of national suffering into the film culture, permeated with the torture of human nature and the consideration of Korean history and real society.Bong Joon-ho also has a strong narrative power. He has a rigorous logic and a precise grasp of details. He can swim in the trend of commercial movies without losing his voice."Black Humor","Anti-typification","Anti-Utopia" and other " Bong-style" creative styles let each film work emit a unique light, these works in the film narrative and audio-visual language formed a unique charming aesthetic style.Bong Joon-ho’s success is the result of the clever combination of nationalism and Western culture, the clever balance of artistic ideals and commercial box office. It not only adds a touch of brilliance to the Korean and even world film circles, but also provides a model for the development of Asian films.
