A Study On South Korean Sports Film In Genre And National Narrative Perspectives

The earliest South Korea sports film can be traced back to 1959,the dream has gone.The Korean sports films made before 2000 just focused on popular sports such as baseball and boxing,and did not aquire the awareness of grene film.In 1986,Lee Chang-houi wingudan directed by Lee Chang-houi was released,which created a brief sports movies-mania wave which ended in the early 1990s.Until entering the new century,Jee-woon Kim's the foul king started the decade of sports film revival.During this period,the development of Korean sports films was remarkable,and there have already existed the bulit narrative conventions in these films.Although Korean sports films after 2000s absorb advantages of the excellent Hollywood sports movies,yet always express and build local culture and values.For example,many of them always show the LOSER complex to express humanism of a loser.In addition,family-rebuilt always be a fundamental factor as well.Moreover these sports films also focus on marginalized population and tend to use comedic narrative.The narrative strategies above mirror the modern social problems,such as economic crisis,social instability,the excessive competitive structure and so on.Meanwhile,they also reflect the national psychology,especially the Han Nationality-Culture of grief and abhorrence.The purpose of this dissertation is to study the narrative convention of Korean sports films and its sociocultural meanings in genre and national narrative perspectives,focusing on the films since 2000.The first chapter discusses the internal narrative of sports films and the development of Korean sports films.The second chapter analyzes the relevance between the ethical values of Korean sports films and the social cultural context.The third chapter discusses how to realize the construction of the local value through the national narrative practice by combing the narrative strategies of Korean sports films,It is hoped that this study will provide some reference and inspiration for the development of Chinese sports film.
