A Report On The Translation Of An Agreement For The Sale And Purchase Of Shares

Since the implementation of the reform and opening-up policy,especially since the undertaking of the “One Belt,One Road” Initiative,international exchanges between China and foreign countries have increased enormously.In order to guarantee the smooth progress of such economic activities,parties involved tend to establish official trade relationships through signing commercial contracts.Given that such contracts are usually drafted in English,which is the most common language in international communication,it is indispensable to translate them into Chinese for the convenience of Chinese companies.With regard to this report,it is based on the translator's translation practice of an Agreement for the Sale and Purchase of Shares,which is a common type of international trade contracts.In this report,the translator focuses on the difficulties in the translation process.She divides them into two parts: the lexical one and the syntactic one.At lexical level,she introduces the translation of terms of art,common words with uncommon meanings and archaic words;and at syntactic level,she illustrates the translation of fixed sentence patterns and long sentences.She presents with examples the translation methods that she adopts so as to follow the principles of legal translation put forward by Zhang Falian,which are accuracy and precision,clarity and concision,identity and consistency,and standardized language.The translator hopes that this report can become a reference for other legal translators.
