Abstract/Summary:
Mental health plays an important role in a person’s life as well as a PhD student’s career.At present,there are still many gaps in the research related to doctoral cultivation in China that need to be filled compared to foreign researches.In this translation project,the source text is Work organization and mental health problems in PhD students,No.2 in 2017 Altmetric Top 100 articles with a score of 5,060.This article was published on Research Policy,a SSCI journal mainly concentrates on policy problems,on March 13 th,2017.This article includes an analysis of the mental state of 3,659 PhD students,and a summary of the main factors that affect PhD students’ mental health,which makes it an important reference for policy research.The translation practice for the article aims at providing a reliable target text which can help domestic researchers and primary learners in the field of research policy to better understand the facts and development directions of the field in recent years.On the other hand,this translation project can be a valuable research material in the area of translation of academic article from English into Chinese.The translation report consists of five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction including descriptions of the source,type,style of the project,client requirements and significances of the project.The second chapter is the description of translation process,including preliminary preparation and translation process.Preliminary preparation mainly concentrates on the preparation of translation theories,translation tools,back ground knowledge,parallel texts and terminology.Translation process requires translator to solve translation problems in different categories.The third chapter is theoretical framework,including a brief introduction to Vinay and Darbelnet’s model and major translation procedures.The fourth chapter is translation problems and translation approaches.Problems found in this project can be categorized into seven groups – terminology,word class,phrase,passive voice,attributive clause,complex sentence and coherence.Solution approaches are raised based on Vinay and Darbelnet’s model as well as some other results from comparative studies between English and Chinese.The fifth chapter is the conclusion part with a summary of the problems encountered in translation practice and solutions for them.
