A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of China’s Belt And Road Initiative In A Global Context(Excerpts)Based On Vinay And Darbelnet’s Model

China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic partners.In recent years,the implementation of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor(CPEC)project has further strengthened the connectivity between the two countries,but in the process of construction,various challenges will be encountered.An in-depth understanding and analysis of Pakistan’s development in various fields can bring enlightenment for future construction,so the translator chooses China’s Belt and Road Initiative in a Global Context Volume II: The China Pakistan Economic Corridor and its Implications for Business as the translation project,a collected paper of 13 chapters,which respectively introduces the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor from different perspectives.The language is objective and rigorous,and its content covers professional background knowledge in related fields with strong professionalism and scholarship.The translator has selected chapter 9 and 10 for translation.Based on Pakistani national situation,the author analyzes the value chain and agriculture,as well as discusses how to leverage its own advantages to achieve a win-win situation.The report is guided by Vinay and Darbelnet’s model,which covers two overall translation strategies,with a breakdown of seven techniques,namely direct translation strategy(borrowing,calque and literal translation)and oblique translation strategy(transposition,modulation,equivalence and adaptation).These techniques are elaborated through specific examples.In this report,the translator mostly uses the techniques of modulation and transposition,and least uses the technique of adaptation.According to the report,the professional knowledge of specific fields and background knowledge are prerequisites for accurate translation;secondly,the translator need improve comprehension and expression skills,and flexibly apply Vinay and Darbelnet’s model.The report is divided into five parts.The first part is the introduction to translated project;The second part elaborates the translation process,including pre-,while-and post-translation;the third part involves theoretical framework,and feasible application of the theory;the fourth part presents the case study,and the fifth part draws a conclusion.
