In recent years, with the rapid development of inbound tourism market in China, guide interpreting plays a more and more important role in promoting Chinese culture. However, the quality of guide interpretation is not so ideal due to cultural barriers, the ability of interpreters and other factors.Based on the interpretation practice of 2018 Ningxia(Shapotou)International Desert Tourism Festival and under the guidance of communicative translation theory, the report analyzes barriers during the task and proposes corresponding strategies with a view to improving the interpreting quality. In accordance with three principles of Newmark's communicative translation theory, namely, the communicative principle,listener-oriented principle, and concise target language, the author states three barriers from the cross-cultural awareness,cultural-loaded expressions and specific historical knowledge and presents related strategies such as addition and free translation, transliteration and annotation, and summarizing. Then the author summarized lessons learned in this practice and realized that an interpreter should make full preparations prior to the task,to be flexible to adopt translation theories and strategies during the task, and reflect the process timely after the task in whatever the interpretation practices. In such a way,one can greatly improve the interpretation quality and effectively promote the local culture exchange.
