| On the basis of promoting the elementary education reform,the Curriculum of English Standards for Senior High Schools are gradually emended and developed,and the development of students’ core competencies has gradually become one of the important measures to promote the reform of English curriculum.The core concept of English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools is to develop students’ core competencies of English subject,namely language ability,thinking quality,cultural awareness and learning ability.Reading teaching is the important part of English teaching,and it is the main way to cultivate students’ core competencies.Teaching design is inseparable from classroom teaching.In addition,the implementation of effective teaching design is crucial to the cultivation of students’ English reading competencies and skills.Based on the core competencies of English subject advocated by the New English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools,after consulting relevant literature at home and abroad,the teaching design of high school English reading course is investigated.The choice of research methods mainly considers the combination of research methods.220 students and 4 English teachers of Zhangjiakou No.6 High School was investigated in this research.This study focuses on the following issues:1.What is the current situation of the application of core competencies of English subject in the teaching design of high school English reading?2.What are the factors affecting the implementation of core competencies of English subject in the teaching design of high school English reading?3.How to improve the implementation effect of English core competencies in reading teaching design?The application of core competencies of English in the teaching design of high school English reading by classroom observation,questionnaire and interview methods.It can be found that there are a number of problems in reflecting the core competencies of English subject,pointing to the cultivation of students’ language ability,thinking quality,cultural awareness and learning ability.Based on a specific analysis of classroom observation,questionnaire survey and interview,the current situation of high school English reading instructional design is introduced and discussed based on core competencies in detail.The questionnaire questions are set according to the four dimensions of core competencies of English subject,aiming to better understand the current situation of high school English reading instructional design in the implementation of core competencies in the surveyed high school.The results showed that: firstly,high school English teachers are not able to have a comprehensive understanding of the core competencies of English subject.Secondly,the fact is the lack of implementation of the core competencies of English subject in the teaching design of high school English reading.Thirdly,the cultivation of language ability and language knowledge are obvious feature of the teaching design of high school.Then,the development of students’ cultural awareness is not carried out fully in the teaching design of high school English reading.Fifthly,the cultivation of students’ learning ability is least reflected in the teaching design of reading.According to the findings,this study makes some suggestions on the impact of improving the design of reading teaching: At first,English teachers need to learn the English core competencies constantly.Second,they should improve the ability of reading teaching design effectively.Then,English teachers should deeply grasp the teaching content and promote students’ all kinds of ability.Then,the reading teaching objectives should take students’ language ability,thinking quality,cultural awareness and learning ability into comprehensive consideration.Fifthly,the design of reading teaching process should be based on the cultivation of students’ core competencies of English subject.The core competencies of English subject should be implemented in reading teaching activities to promote the development of students’ core competencies of English subject.Last but not least,the deficiencies of this study and prospected for future research are discussed. |
