With the continuous enhancement of China's comprehensive national power and the rapid development of economy,China and the rest of the world have become more closely connected in politics,economy,culture,science and technology.China's tourism industry has taken on the historical mission of spreading Chinese culture and establishing China's image.The tourism texts refer to all the texts related to tourism activities,including attraction introductions,advertisement slogans,folklore albums.So it is regarded as a kind of publicity material,which plays an important role in arousing people's touring enthusiasms,introducing China's tourism culture and promoting the development of tourism.In order to help the foreign readers and visitors remove language and cultural barriers,and better understand Chinese tourism culture,the tourism text translation becomes much more essential.The research of the tourism text translation strategies has become an important task with both theoretical and practical significance.Beautiful China: Beautiful Shandong is a typical representative of the tourism texts.The book panoramically describes the local conditions and customs,places of interest,and history and culture of Shandong Province in beautiful languages.Adaptation Theory is proposed by the Belgian pragmatist Verschueren(2004),which is a kind of theory about the communicative behavior and cognition of human language.It takes the selection of language and adaptation as an opportunity to describe the various phenomena of human language uses,to explain the psychological mechanism and the process of human language communication,and to explore the role of society,culture and cognition.Adaptation Theory believes that the language has variability,negotiability and adaptability.Translation is a complex interlingual activity that involves language transformation.Applying Adaptation Theory to translation practices,translators can have a new perspective on the choice of translation strategies.Therefore,based on Adaptation Theory,this thesis takes C-E translation practice of Beautiful China: Beautiful Shandong as an example,tries to explore a series of translation strategies that conform to both the theoreticalconnotations and the tourism text characteristics,such as amplification,deletion,annotation,with the aim to provide some enlightenment for tourism text translation under the guidance of Adaptation Theory.This thesis firstly gives generally introduction to the research background,purpose and significance,and the basic layout,subsequently comprehensively reviews the overseas and domestic studies on Adaptation Theory and tourism text translation,and interprets the historical development,three key notions and four dimensions of Adaptation Theory,furthermore deeply analyses the language and functional features of tourism texts and Beautiful China: Beautiful Shandong.Finally,combined with the practice of translation,based on the examples,the thesis comprehensively illustrates the translation strategies of tourism texts from the four dimensions of adaptation,and summarizes the main findings and the existing problems.
