This is a Chinese-English translation report. The author of the report takes the excerpts of Beautiful Shaanxi as the source text to explore the guiding role of Variational Translation Theory in her translation practice.Beautiful Shaanxi systematically introduces the tourism resources, folk cultures and customs of Shaanxi. The source text is a tourism text, containing a lot of culture-loaded expressions,four-character phrases, long sentences and poems;and the language style and textual features are very different from those of the English tourism text.In order to effectively convey the information of the text and attract more foreign tourists, the author of the report, under the guidance of Variational Translation Theory, adopts different adaptation techniques like adding, deleting, integrating and narrating to adjust the original text and flexibly translate various linguistic items. The use of the above adaptation techniques can explain the cultural connotation of the original text to let the TL readers understand the relevant background knowledge, highlight the main information and make the translation conform to the cohesion features of the target language to help the TL readers accept the translation with less effort. In translating Beautiful Shaanxi, the author of the report uses different adaptation techniques to achieve the effective transmission of tourism information and obtain the expected translation effect,so that it can meet the main needs of the TL readers, thus further disseminating the tourism resources and special culture of Shaanxi to the TL readers and promoting the influence of local tourism.
