A Project Report On The Translation Of The Tour Commentary Of Shennong Native Scenic Area

Boasting abundant tourism resources,China has attracted an increasing number of domestic and foreign tourists in recent years.In order to further enhance China's international image and speed up the transformation from a big tourist country to a strong one,tourism should be taken as one of the pillar industries in China,which needs to be developed vigorously.Therefore,it is of particular importance for Chinese tourism industry to provide tourism translation services with high-quality to win more foreign tourists.This is a project report on the Chinese-English translation of the tour commentary of Shennong Native Scenic Area of Suizhou City.The material,covering more than 12,000 words,comprehensively introduces the cultural geography,historical sites and beautiful scenery in Shennong Native Scenic Area.This translation project report firstly introduces the content and significance of this project,and analyzes the characteristics of the tour commentary.Therefore,the author takes Skopos theory as the guiding theory of this project report to analyze the difficulties encountered in translation.Tour commentary is essential to tourism services which helps sightseers better appreciate places of historical interest and scenic beauty as well as folk customs and historic stories.As a special kind of tourism text,the tour commentary has its unique language style and features:sense of the scene and colloquial,which are not only the emphases but also the difficulties during the translation process.In order to avoid the translation of tour commentary losing its oral-style characteristics and typical on-site effects,it is necessary to adopt flexible translation methods and strategies to solve different translation problems.Only in this way can sightseers be accessible to the corresponding cultural information while enjoying the natural beauty so as to achieve the goal of cross-cultural communication.In this report,guided by the Skopos theory,the author deals with culture-loaded words from the three aspects of cultural compensation,transposition and simplification,translates the folk adages by adjusting or maintaining the sentence structure,and translates the Chinese couplets with the purpose of language equivalence and matching artistic conceptions.Moreover,the author summarizes the experience and deficiencies in translation,and presents some aspects for further research.
