This report analyzes the whole process of a tour guide interpreting practice for the Xinyang Nanwan Lake Scenic Area from the perspective of Skopos theory,including interpretation task description,interpretation practice process,interpretation practice case analysis,interpretation practice summary and reflection.There are several difficulties in the practice of tour guide interpreting as following.Firstly,there are some barriers in cross-cultural communication.Secondly,the Chinese tour guide in the scenic area speaks too fast and covers too much information,which makes the interpreter unable to interpret what the Chinese tour guide said in time.Thirdly,there are too many Classical Chinese poems and four-character structure words,which makes it difficult for the interpreter to translate what the Chinese tour guide said into English.In view of the above problems,the author adopted Skopos theory as the guidance,found out the effective solutions,analyzed the problems and provided the specific examples.The author has achieved the following two goals through this practice of tour guide interpreting.Firstly,introducing the cultural history and natural landscape of the Nanwan Lake Scenic Area,and promoting the Eco-tourism Development of the Xinyang Nanwan Lake Scenic Area.Secondly,exploring the effective translation strategies and methods to achieve better interpretation effects based on the features of tour guides’ description of the Nanwan Lake Scenic Area.This report applies Skopos theory to the practice of tour guide interpreting at the Nanwan Lake Scenic Area,solves obstacles in cross-cultural communication in the process of interpretation practice,and explores five effective and feasible translation methods.The author hopes that this report can play a positive role to improve the international tourism service of the Xinyang Nanwan Lake Scenic Area and provide a reference for other escort interpreters and students. |
